Canon T3i

Vlogging, new-used camera, and video

I got my first camera when I was 5. It was a Kodak Instamatic. I still own one, just for sentimental reasons. I’ve always had a camera nearby. My father is a very talented photographer and that was my area of study at SVA in New York. After SVA I had the amazing stroke of luck to be invited to do some live show photography by some rock bands which rolled out to doing shoots for various publications and later some gallery shows. No matter where I roam, photography is where I always wander back to when I want to express myself both casually and in more elaborate ways.Sometimes it’s just a snapshot that I take so the image happens, otherwise I’ll never do it. Sometimes I’m inspired and motivated to make a bigger effort, as with the documentary I’ve been working on over the past year about the vintage camper community.

Either way, I gave myself permission a long time ago to release the desire to always make a technically perfect or professional image or always use my best equipment. That was hindering my process and as a result, I just wasn’t doing it at all, which was depressing. (ANYWAY, GET TO THE POINT, LADY!) So I’ve been writing less, but vlogging more and taking more photos. Right now I’m enjoying the process. We’ll see! So sometimes the videos will just be chatter on an iPhone, sometimes they’ll be an attempt at beautiful footage.

I’ve had a bug to do mini stories about different people and places. So yesterday I picked up a used Canon T3i because it produces lovely video and I like the idea that I can mount a bullet mic on top and record direct. It’s just for running around town, seeing what I can find.  Here’s the vlog about it:
