BiscuitQuest! Maple sausage and cheese biscuits

My grandfather started each morning by getting up before dawn and enjoying a banana and black coffee while reading the paper. He was able to enjoy some peace and quiet to himself before the day got into gear.

I, on the other hand, sleep too long, shower too long, then frantically run around getting 2 kids who also sleep too long and truly resent having to move at any pace in the mornings. I’m frequently yelling, “Hurry! We’re going to be late!” and end up eating a crappy granola bar (if I eat anything) for breakfast on the train.

SO I had the idea that I would do a breakfast-on-the-go entry into my Biscuit Quest. (This project has a name now. If I were to get all design-ey, it would be one word, but separated by the cool’ish middle cap. BiscuitQuest.)

I doubled the standard vintage Better Homes and Gardens cookbook recipe, then added 1 1/2 teaspoons of cream of tartar, some browned maple sausage, and about a cup of shredded cheddar. After I browned the sausage, I poured it into a mixing bowl lined with a few layers of paper towels to dry up the grease so it wouldn’t add so much extra fat to the dough.

They reheated wonderfully in the morning. 20 seconds in the microwave, wrapped in a paper towel. In hindsight, I wish I had added some rosemary. Well, there’s my excuse to make it again. 🙂

This has my brain going, thinking of other combos. Definitely sausage and rosemary.

Lavender and currants?

Goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes?
Do you have any combo ideas?
