Cooking: What’s on the menu this week

My friend Sean and his wife Amy gave us a beautiful red enamel cast iron pot for our wedding. After using it as a fabulous piece of shelf decor for 2 1/2 years, I’ve finally whipped it out and put it to work.

Yesterday afternoon I spent about 4 hours in the kitchen (not counting the hour run to the grocery store) cooking the full on Julia Child Boef Bourguignon and let me tell you that it was worth every single second. I totally get what all the fuss is about.

Inspired by this success, I’m moving onto a Roman-style chicken recipe that my friend Elizabeth cooked for a recent party. It was by far the hit of the gathering and everyone loved it. I’ve been craving a pot of my own ever since.

I trend developing here: Boiling meat in wine = success.

On the “To Do” list for this weekend: Tackle what has always seemed to me to be the culinary mountain to conquer: a chocolate souffle. Any tips?

Part of my New Year’s Resolution list includes getting back in touch with my chef side. I love cooking and like many other working moms, have drifted away from it. For me, I think the key is going to be seeking out challenging recipes as projects and new things to try.

Do you have anything on your list that you’ve always wanted to try cooking? Please share them. Let’s take on our challenges together!
