Thankfully I am married to a super sweet guy who planned a romantic trip for just the two of us last weekend as a birthday present. It was WONderful. I mean, I am totally in love with the guy, but there’s a lot going on around here to keep us distracted. We talk a lot about the kids, who’s turn it is to put the chickens to bed, how much half and half is left, what we’re having for dinner, who can pick Sophia up from Brownies…on and on and on. So to have 3 full days of, “Oh yeah! Hey! I remember why I married you. You’re awesome!” was really great. Dave’s sister and her boyfriend drove up from Peoria to spend the weekend with Will and ‘Fi was at her dad’s house, so off to New Orleans we flew…just like 2 consenting grown ups.
Dinner at Court of Two Sisters
We checked into the hotel and took the trolley over to Cafe Du Monde for an afternoon recharge of yummy chicory coffee and a snack of beignets. Dave found a “Scandalous Cocktail Tour” that was led by this really interesting gal who took us around to old speakeasy hideouts, secret lounges, and old mob-favored nightspots. The rest of the weekend was spent browsing galleries, eating delicious food, holding hands, enjoying joking around and chatting, listening to great old jazz at Preservation Hall, and just exploring.
Taking the ferry to Algiers
My husband is pretty much awesome. Best birthday ever. -Even if it made me 40.
