HEI-YAH!

Saturday morning Dave and I took Sophia to her first Kempo class. It was hilarious and awesome all at the same time. Our friend Jason usually teaches, but was out sick. He was sweet enough to show up long enough to help introduce Sophia to the environment and then headed home. I was so impressed with her commitment and focus even though she did everything backwards and in the wrong direction. It could very easily have ended up being one of those things where she got embarrassed and shrugged her way over to the sidelines. But instead, she was totally supported by her peers in the class who helped her out, guided her, and went out of their way to make her feel welcome. I haven’t seen a group of kids that cool in a long time. -Just when I thought no one else in this area was interested in teaching their kids manners, kindness, and discipline, here is this group of children who were all that and more. It’s a great feeling to know that Sophia is investing herself in such a worthwhile activity.

She’s already decided that she’s going to work for her black belt. I hope she does.
